What are we? The American Riichi Mahjong League, ( or ARML for short) is a national league for riichi (Japanese) mahjong.
What do we do? Using the templates of the professional leagues in Japan, the ARML aims to provide a central space to those who are competitive and wish to challenge themselves in a long-term setting, or for those who are learning and want to challenge themselves against the best the United States have to offer.
Who is the league open to? The league is open to any citizen or permanent resident of the US.
The league is open to all players and skill levels.
Where do I sign up? https://americanriichi.org/ is the official site for the ARML and includes signups as well as current league standings and the logs of all games.
What client are you playing on? The ARML is played on Tenhou, generally considered as a no-frills competitive platform. Everything is in English by default on /4/ except for the in-game yaku names which is translated with the use of a browser plugin.
Are there any upgrades to make Tenhou more readable? There is a translation plugin for Chrome and Firefox which translates everything on both the regular and mobile clients. In it, you can customize how translated you want the yaku to be from full Japanese all the way to terminology used by the European Mahjong Association (EMA).
The plugin also gives the option to put numbers/letters on manzu (character) and honor tiles similar to other English clients.
You can find the plugins using the following links:
There is an older version of both with more users, but this is the up-to-date version with more features.
