I play doujin action games and assorted console/arcade retro games. I'm packing a couple hundred gigabytes of doujin action games under this coat and the independent lab tests only turned up trace quantities of lewd.
FAQ: Q: Are you a consistent streamer
Doujin games/doujinsoft are basically amateur-made games from Japan. "Doujin" is a general term for self-published work by one guy, a small group, or one guy supported by external collaborators called a "circle." A circle has a team name to associate with their work and maybe retain some anonymity (like "Platine Dispositif" or "Team Shanghai Alice.") They can produce original content or fan work based on an IP in any medium at all. It may or may not be erotic. A circle can start doujin and go commercial (like Type Moon.) The work can be free or sold. It's a very broad term.
It's "indie" but with a few key differences. It is very focused on fan tributes to their favorite commercial media, though there are plenty of original doujin works as well. Doujin is not the entirety of Japan's amateur/indie art scene. It could be seen as a subset of indie arts or a completely separate entity altogether, probably depending on who you ask. The distinction between "indie" and "doujin" isn't something to fret about and explaining doujin games as Japanese indie games is a fine way to quickly get to the point.

Every country has their own version of indie/fan art, but like a lot of things Japanese, Japan's version is its own thing with uniquely interesting characteristics. Much of it revolves around Comiket, a decades-long running expo that originated as a fan works convention.
Doujin gaming/software is probably the smallest subset of doujin works since game development is so much more technical. My guess is light novels or drawings are the most numerous.
Despite all of that, doujinsoft is still a very rich vein of raw, unfiltered gaming. Gaming straight from the source. You could spend several lifetimes finding fun (or at least interesting) games that came and went with nary a download.
I get a huge kick out of booting up some ancient unknown game that hasn't seen the light of day in decades and finding an interesting experiment or something truly exceptional. It's even better seeing it resonate with others out there.
If you're a fan of examining completely obscure gaming, then I hope you come along for the ride!! It's an unadulterated gaming experience with very little prompting or expectation to cloud it. That's a rarer and rarer opportunity these days, I think we can all agree!
Over the years, I've amassed 100s of doujin action games from various sources using these pretty narrow criteria:
--Targeting various action games in the arcade/console-tradition
--Mostly (but not completely) skipped out on traditional STG/shmups, as it isn't really my main genre of choice and there are a ton of doujin shmups
--Mostly (but not completely) skipped Touhou because it's its own thing at this point, covered by Touhou fans. Some touhou fan games are too good to pass up though!
--Safe for twitch, with a few exceptions that need to be edited/censored because the games are just too good.
I hope to check out at least 20% of what I've found and hope everyone watching finds a bunch of cool games that they may never have seen otherwise.
The PS1 3D Fighter Randomoulette [Hereafter known as "The Frando"]
Once I wanted to play all 100ish 3D fighters on PS1, but after reaching the north pole of Tobal 2 and the south pole of Fist, I felt satisfied. I leave this here just in case. Also, I may still do 1-off rando days if i'm in the mood!
I still say it's a good one for a small, non-infinite roulette series--I encourage others to give it a shot!
