I have a voice disorder, which makes my voice sound strained. When my voice gets bad, I will either whisper or not have mic on. You’ll always see me typing in chat ♡
Spasmodic dysphonia (SD) causes involuntary spasms in the muscles around the vocal cords. This causes the voice to break and sound strangled. People with SD can still laugh and whisper without the spasms occurring.
There is currently no permanent cure, but it can be treated with Botox injections. These temporarily weaken the muscles, making the voice sound more normal. Reinjections are repeated every 3-6 months.
