My Name is Andras Toth. IM, Fide rating 2377. (peak 2449). I am a 39 years old teacher and a chess coach originally from Hungary, living in Australia. I have been playing chess since the age of 10,
and doing coaching for nearly a decade and a half. Among my own coaches I had the amazing Laszlo Hazai, the trainer of the Polgar sisters and life-long second (sort of coach) of super GM Boris Gelfand. On this stream I am going to mostly play blitz and entertain my viewers as best as I can.
"[23:26] @MorphyTalFIscher: school is for losers, this stream will do you more good, bring your teachers too"
FBardamu : Andras reminds me of a virtuostic music producer. He manipulates the art to his will. Every crescendo, fall, every note and beat... It’s all so perfectly calculated, beautifully smooth in its execution and it simply brings a tear to one’s eye. In his magnum opus performance, will he be able to outrun his demons? Only time can tell.
Where are you from? Where is the weird name and the accent coming from?
I am originally from Hungary (hence the weird name and accent) but I live in Australia.
What were your best results?
I won Hungarian junior championship (U16 and U20) Represented my country at various junior events, of which best would be U16 world juniors. Came about 20th but played against a very tough field, and I
beat Aroinian Levon (former world no2!) who later came second in the comp!
Won a few open tournaments, best was Atom Cup Hungary, ahead of a GM and IMs (i was not titled yet then)
Was the coach of the Australian Women's team at the Dresden Olympiad in 2008
What websites do you play on?
Chess.com
Are you still active?
Not really, have not played in a competition for a few years. My job, my family and my private students keep me very busy, or at least they are the ones I
use as an excuse.
Do you want to become a GM?
Nope, I don't spend any time on my own chess and it does not motivate me any longer. (My moving out to Australia was the last nail in that coffin)
