Signal Processing for the stream
The MacBook Pro runs Pro Tools Studio (latest veriosn) where I run the mixer main outs (left & right) in to channels 1 & 2 of my soundcard. I run my mic in to channel 3. OBS only accepts 2 channel audio so I live process the audio in Pro Tools which allows me to add several Waves Plugins to process the audio for both the music & mic. I run several plugins on the mic. For the music I run a combination of the Waves L3 Multimaximizer plugins which allows me to tightly control the audio output level and add some EQ where necessary. I also use the several Waves C1 Compressor/Gate plugins which allows the mic to "punch-in" to the music signal - basically it creates room for the mic signal by dropping down the level of the music every time I talk. This allows me to talk without having to manually drop down the music signal on the mixer. I also use a C1 plugin for the mic as a gate to cut out the background noise from the monitors.
Using Pro Tools also allows me to record the stream with CD quality with all 3 channels (mixer L&R + mic). This is cool in the case I decide to master and release just the audio from a stream since I'm able to mute the mic track during the mastering process.
