Welcome on in! I'm MattRPD a partnered variety streamer who, supported by an amazing community, has blended horror and comedy since 2019.
Before then, my focus was on building a career in the legal profession. Despite completing my Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree and beginning a postgraduate Legal Practice Course (LPC), my heart wasn’t in it, and, for a time, I drifted from job to job, at a loss about what I wanted to do with my life.
This all changed when, in early 2020, I watched my good friend Tompano__ speedrun Resident Evil 2 (Remake). I’d never come across the concept of speedrunning video games before. I quickly became in awe of the speedrunning communities who not only supported each other but worked together to find new ways to complete games in the fastest time possible.
With unerring support and friendly competition from Tompano__ that has continued to this day, I set about mastering the speedrun of Resident Evil 2 (Remake). To begin with, I was playing and streaming the game every day after work. This led to me getting very competitive times on the speedrunning leader boards, achieving a few NG+ world records, and ranking in the top 3 in the world on a major category for console.
My growing community and I also participated in charitable events like the European Speedrun Assembly (ESA) and the United Kingdom Speedrun Gathering (UKSG). We also helped to create the REMarathon charitable organisation.
Following the pandemic, I decided to take a year away from my day job to focus entirely on growing my channel. With the support, encouragement and enthusiasm of my community, I gained the courage and confidence to stream full-time and finally resigned from my day job.
