My dog, Umbra, is a purebred Groenendael (Belgian Sheepdog). She is 9 years old. During WWI, Belgian Sheepdogs distinguished themselves on the battlefields, serving as message carriers, ambulance dogs, and even pulling machine guns. They were also used as police dogs in Paris and New York in the early 1900s.
