Welcome to the Channel!
I mainly play through my retro game collection but there will likely be more modern releases now and again. The retro games played are the original versions on real hardware which is a novelty mainly for my own benefit though it does mean no save states! Where possible I do the unboxing of the game so you can see it in it's full context. I have all the major consoles so there will be a lot of variety and I'm still collecting so the library will grow over time!
I also stream obscure Japan exclusive games using the Universal Games Translator to make them playable.
All consoles are the original hardware hooked up to an Open Source Scan Converter to get and HD signal which is then fed into an Elgato capture card – Elgato capture software won't be able to read the signal so your best bet is OBS source capture. The OSSC outputs a very high quality image with no noticeable latency so it's an excellent option for using classic consoles on modern monitors.
Some console will need to be modded to output an RGB signal which the OSSC can read but all consoles need specialist cables which I get from https://www.retrogamingcables.co.uk.
Universal Games Translator is a really good piece of software that uses the Google Lens/ Translator to take an image of the screen and convert the text to English as an overlay. It can be pretty hit or miss but it's the best thing I've found to make Japan exclusives accessible. The software can be found here https://www.codedojo.com/?p=2426 – it will require a Google account a depending on your usage it may incur a cost so watch out!
