The Forest of Memories has existed since conscious thought was first formed. It exists on the lands neighboring the Sea of Dreams, and it is said that the dreams that float to the surface of the Sea sometimes make their way into the forest.
It is upon the shores of the Sea of Dreams that Zaruk Wind-Caller washed up one day. With no memories of his past, no idea who he was, and none of the powers he currently wields.
All he had was a name, his own, and with that he made his way off the shores and toward the Forest of Memories, the wind pulling him on.
Stumbling into the Forest of Memories, Zaruk watched as the trees seemed to grow and shape themselves behind him, trapping him inside. With nowhere to go but forward he was led deeper into the forest itself, a strange feeling reverberating in his mind, as if something was trying to worm its way into it only to find nothing of interest.
At the center of the Forest was a titanic oak, with bark so worn with age that appeared like rock. Upon touching this mighty tree, the imp was bombarded with knowledge, wisdom, and memories not his own. The history of the Forest, the principles of Magic, the connection between one's memories and one's emotions...all became his to understand.
Armed with this new intellect he wove for himself a hat and cloak to cover his body, and as his magic was introduced to the world, the Memory Wisps of the Forest tattooed themselves onto him, covering him with a resplendent array of colors and designs.
